Work Life (Im)Balance

This might seem like a regular and most heard topic of this generation, but the importance of Work-Life Balance is not recorded by most people now.

What is Work Life Balance?

I googled this topic before blogging. Got  quite a plenty of definitions for it. But I felt it will be appropriate to say that I have a balance between Work and Life when I am happy both at office and at home. Are we really happy at Office and Home? Or at the least, either of those? Nope. Most of us are not happy at both the places.

How do we have Work Life Balance?

Let's ask ourselves a few questions to know the answer.

Do we come across people who say that they are working hard for the organisation's benefits?

Yes, we do. And I strongly believe that they are liars. Coz Self benefits are far more important than organisational benefits. If you work for organisational benefits you are going to lose your personal benefits. What's fun when you cant spend some time for chatting and dating your girl friend, what's life when you cant spend some time with your wife at home and what's more important when you can't spend time with your little kid waiting for his/her hero to come home. Finally, when I am able to satisfy my family's needs, automatically I can spend my efficient time at office as a loyal employee in the benefit of my organisation.

Do we come across people who say they develop skills by staying late at office?

Developing Skills! Tricky subject. Hell Yeah. Developing skills is very important. It will definitely be a stepping stones to achieve success. A passion for life. That passion shouldb't possibly take a toll on your personal life. Developing skills is a must. But how? Definitely not by staying late at office. Plot new ways and work on it.  A Psychological Study signifies that people get adapted to a place where we stay for longer period of time. Calculations based on the study shows that we already spend one third of our day's life at office and for skill development another one third. So basically we spend all the time at office (ignoring the time we sleep, I really doubt which one do I call HOME now.) and we get adapted to this part of life. Developing skills is a need to achieve in professional life, but the time we spend for it should not be the time that is needed by our family. What's the use of getting huge money when we are not happy with the money.

Do you fight at home for silly reasons?

If yes, you are one among the victim list. Another study indicates that when the mind gets stressed for a continuous period of time, it keeps waiting for a time to burst. That time generally for us is when we are with the family. Throw the anger, relieve your stress. Ha-am-free feeling.  "Look at what YOU did" is the situation where we should fit ourselves after every significant fight at home.

Do you expect your family to respect you?

Warning! A real threat here. Why do you expect 'respect' from family when all you need is 'love'? Bcoz all you talk and expect at office is respect. It is time for us to really understand the difference between Home and Office.

Do you lack social capability?

This phase is quite hard for me, since I have seen most people with least understanding skills about this social capability. If you are a shy type guy, forget it, it doesn't come under this category. But when you speak and people don't like it, you lack social capability. Social Capability varies from time to time. From School to College, College to Working Environment. Most people lose their social life when they start the culture of Working.

I have balanced Work and Life only when I have sufficient entertainment and relaxation in my day to day activities. Take a break of 2-3 minutes for every hour of working. Have a friendly conversation with colleagues at break time. Discuss about the movies and stuff with friends during Lunch and Tea. Divert your stressed phase of Job by having a Non-Job related discussion with people around you. Do your Child's Home work. Romance with your wife/girl friend. Plan for a movie or outing every weekend. Go for a long drive. Family Dinner at home. Play games. Swim, jog, cycle. Above all manage your work based on the quantum of work, not by the boss you work for. If we follow all these simple easy to do steps, Life will be awesome.
